Alejandra Alvarez-Gavieres
¡Hola! I’m Alejandra, and I’m thrilled to be part of your language learning journey. As a native Spanish speaker with a BA in Spanish and a certified ASL interpreter, I bring both passion and expertise to helping you master Spanish. I’m currently pursuing a master’s degree in World Languages and Cultures, specializing in Spanish, while also serving as a writing consultant on campus, where I assist students improving their writing in Spanish.
My teaching philosophy centers on the communicative approach, where we focus on real-world conversations, cultural immersion, and practical language skills. Whether you're preparing for an exam, improving your conversational abilities, or tackling writing assignments, I’m here to help you excel. With years of experience in language education, I believe that learning should be both engaging and transformative.
Beyond the classroom, I’m always eager to dive into new cultures, languages, and experiences—because language learning is about connecting with the world in meaningful ways. Let’s make your Spanish journey as dynamic and rewarding as possible!
Brandon Sully
¡Hola a todos! I am an undergraduate student in World Languages and Cultures with a concentration in Spanish at GSU. My Spanish-speaking journey started in a mostly all Spanish-speaking kitchen during the Covid-19 pandemic. This experience inspired me to return to school in 2021 where I began studying Spanish, Languages, and Cultural Studies. Since then, I have devoted much of my time to acquiring fluency in the Spanish Language. I studied very briefly in Ecuador in 2022, and this summer I spent two months in Spain, one of those months in which I was enrolled in a Spanish academy. Currently, I am working towards a C1 level certificate in the Spanish language, and I am studying how to teach comprehensible input in my spare time. Since Spanish is my second language, I understand the challenges that come with learning a second language and I am here to help you along your journey. Whether you need help with your grammar and writing assignments, or you want conversational practice in the language, I am here to help you achieve your academic goals.
Daniel Greene
¡Hola, mi gente!
I have been tutoring and practicing Spanish since 2012 as I began my journey in Spanish in high school. I have a passion for language learning and communication, and I realized the motion of language throughout my surroundings. I finished my Bachelor’s in Spanish here at GSU, where I conversed with my peers, instructors, and tutors from the CIRCLE. At GSU, I had a fair share of in-person and virtual courses. My studies here at State have fortified my knowledge of the Spanish language which is why I have decided to return here again for my Master’s. This time around I get to tutor at the CIRCLE and take on language pedagogy classes and discuss global topics in my classes. I look forward to meeting you at the CIRCLE and directing you toward your language learning goals. ¡Qué tengas un buen semestre!
David Amegnran
I am a dedicated tutor with versatile skills to help French language learners improve their listening, speaking, reading, and writing competencies. I incorporate the Communicative Language Teaching and Task- Based Instructions approaches to make learning very engaging and meeting learners need. The usage of multimedia (Words & pictures), Target Language and gestures tend to make my tutoring lessons very comprehensive and build confidence in my learners. I cover all kinds of topics in the French language, from basic to complex, with individual learners and group settings for both in-person schedules at CIRCLE Room 128, Langdale Hall, and online learnings via Webex on Tuesdays at 9:00 am - 5:30 pm and Wednesdays 9'30 am - 4'00 pm. I would be more enthusiastic to have you as I look forward to contributing meaningfully to the achievement of your educational and professional dreams.
Lily Merlin
Hola, ¡estoy deseando conocerlos! I am Lily, an undergraduate student here at Georgia State, majoring in Philosophy and minoring in Spanish. I fell in love with the Spanish in middle school when I started listening to reggaeton and bachata music of artists like Bad Bunny and Romeo Santos. I took some advanced classes in high school and then was able to spend six weeks in Mexico City this summer to study Spanish and Mexican culture at the Universidad Iberoamericana (in the picture here I’m in Castillo de Chapultepec in the city). With this time spent studying and using Spanish as a second language, I understand the difficulties in learning it as a native English speaker and how to overcome these difficulties. I look forward to sharing what I’ve learned with you all so you can succeed in Spanish!
Gissel Barbecho
¡Hola! I’m Gissel (Gigi), a Master’s student in the World Languages Program with a concentration in Cultural Studies. I was born in Ecuador and moved to the U.S. in 2017, where I’ve been actively involved in cultural exchange initiatives. I’m passionate about helping people overcome language and cultural barriers. I’m here to support you on your Spanish learning journey. With a strong background in language acquisition, intercultural communication, and cultural initiatives, I’m excited to work with you and help you reach your academic goals!
Osiris Zelaya
¡Hola, mi gente de GSU! I am Osiris Zelaya, a GSU master's student in World Languages and Applied Intercultural Studies with a concentration in Spanish. A bit about myself: I am a Latina and Spanish heritage speaker, born in Georgia and raised by a Mexican mom and a Honduran dad. I hope to help everyone who comes to the CIRCLE with their Spanish courses, whether it’s homework, projects, essay drafts, or any other assistance you need. I took the majority of my Spanish courses during my undergrad at GSU, so I’m familiar with some of the professors and their work.

¡Hola todos! I’m a masters student in Spanish. I especially love conversation tutoring and pronunciation but feel free to stop by if you need help with homework and looking over papers (once you have a draft). In addition to Spanish, I love history, specifically Latin American history! So, feel free to come to talk to me about history too. I was born and raised in Georgia but very unfamiliar to the city. My hobbies include video gaming (PlayStation), cooking, and baking. I look forward to seeing y’all at CIRCLE hasta pronto.
Jan Pereira de Carvalho
Hey! My name is Jan and I am from Erlangen, Germany. I am also half Portuguese, which explains my not-so-German-sounding last name! I have been working as a language tutor for 2 and a half years. Over in Germany I was a tutor for French and English but now I tutor my mother tongue here.
I am actually a student, who aspires to become a teacher of English and geography over in Germany. At GSU my major is geography. I will be living in Atlanta until May 2023!
If you want to practice German grammar, practice general communication skills and want me to look over your homework and assignments, I am glad to help you in whatever way I can. We could even speak about some interesting things in Germany and I can give you some information on what life in Germany and study abroad programs in Germany are all about!
