LANGUAGE RESOURCES
Arabic
Arabic is spoken by more than 300 million people as a native language and used for liturgical and technical purposes by nearly a billion. The US State Department identifies Arabic as a critical language, meaning that there exists much support and scholarships available for the intermediate and advanced study of the language. First-year Arabic courses at Georgia State are available entirely online as asynchronous courses: students can receive their initial year of language credit working from home through a carefully-developed program of study that provides fluency in the alphabet and sound system, the root-pattern system that makes Arabic so different from English, basic sentence structure, vocabulary and cultural studies. Second-year courses are available on the Atlanta campus for the 2022-23 academic year and will make the transition to online asynchronous beginning in the 2023-24 academic year. Further study can be done on an individual basis or, more preferably, through a network of study abroad programs where students can take advantage of the immersion environment. Please contact Dr. Ian Campbell at [email protected] should you have questions.
